3) Our first few days
We were nervously dropped off at Aicola falls visitor center and registered as numbers 772 and 773 and got our photos taken under the famous archway. We met up with a small group who were all around our age and super nice. We all set up camp at Springer mtn shelter and made a campfire and chatted for a bit with Kevin, Squirrel, Elsa, and Wes and made our first official dinner on the AT. It was hard to sleep that night with all our excitement.
Day 2 we hiked with Kevin for most of the day and ended up at Hawk Shelter. It was beautiful views that made us feel like we were in the Rain forest with big leafy branches that created a tunnel over the trail. That night we ended up falling right asleep at 8p. We woke up at 6am and ate some yummy eggs which gave us a good start for our 8 mi day to Gooch shelter.
On the way we found an awesome spot called Justus Creek where we soaked our feet and washed up while enjoying the sunshine. When we got to camp we were one of the first to get there n set up our tent. Another early night for us as the trail is beautiful but tiring. So far we have hiked over 25 miles and feel better with each day.
Last note: Jake is getting slightly better at the harmonica.
