Pizza, A Creepy House, Great Friends, and Smiles Not Miles!
We got to the Partnership Shelter around noon where there was a free shower and a phone to order pizza. Little did we know there was no delivery until 4 pm. So we waited around, showered, and chatted with fellow hikers. Ladybug then went to order the pizza and we waited another hour. When the delivery man came, I thought our order was wrong so the delivery man panicked, took back the pizza, and handed me his wad of cash ($30). Another hour later he showed up and gave us a stuffed crust pizza ( which I thought was our original order) and free cheesy breadsticks. As it turns out Ladybug hadn't ordered the stuffed crust, it was our miscommunication. Ooops.... But I was glad to be able to give the delivery guy his wad of money back.
The next day we unintentionally did 22 miles. That day we passed through a lot of old farms and fields, including an 1850 school house where there was trail magic inside. So we had fun pretending we were in class as we gulped down our cans of soda. Later that day, we were planning on camping on top of one of the mountains but there were no camping spots. So we hiked on... The sun was going down and we saw a creepy abandoned house by the river which propelled us to go further as we imagined a person inside staring at us.
Several days later we arrived in Pearisburg and the first we did was to order a bunch of food from Dairy Queen. We waited there until one of Ladybug's friends who lives nearby came to pick us up. We got an actual cozy home to stay in and a real kitchen to cook our own food. Thanks again Josh and Gwen!! We got dropped off at McAfee's Knob a couple days later which is one of the most photograped places on the A.T. We both have new shoes, music to jump start us in the morning, and lighter bags (after sending our unnecessay gear home). We did 20 miles the day after being dropped off but we realized its very painful and we don't enjoy it as much. So we have decided we will take our time again as that is what this trip is all about. Smiles not the miles.
