New Shoes, Bees, Falling Trees and.....A Swimming Bear?
Connecticut flew by as it was only 50 miles or so. Near one of the old unused bridges these children with wagons came towards us, giving us fresh veggies. They told us we just missed the lemonade. Shortly after, we went swimming in this beautiful falls and sunned ourselves dry on the rocks. We then went into Salisbury CT where we got to see one of the oldest still working libraries. Ladybug got her flashy purple shoes in the mail, thanks to Merrell for giving her them for free! We hiked back to the trail with some yummy treats, bread and butter. Sadly, when we got to the top of the mountain to feast we realized the butter had spilled everywhere inside my bag. At camp that night we were relieved to find a bear box as my buttery bag would have probably attracted some unwanted animals. The next afternoon was quite rainy as we entered Massachusetts. As we tried to find cover under a tree, Ladybug realized she had sat on a bees nest. We ran out of there and into the rain and by the end of the day we were so happy to find a nice campsite on top of the mountain. In the morning we met a girl named Turtle as she walked around our tent picking blueberries. Later on in the day we hiked on and off with Bud, Turtle, Aroo, Cactus, Studmuffin, and Glorious Laughter. We all hiked to a large tent site where we got quite a scare during the night, as a tree came crashing down near someone's tent. The next day we awoke early to get to Upper Goose Pond Cabin where it was rumored we could order pizza. When we got there, the caretaker let us know there was no pizza delivery, as it was in the middle of the woods... Instead we went for a swim in the lake and watched the kayakers while we had lunch. We also got to see a large bear going for a swim in the lake as well, which was quite a sight to see. Later in the evening we were hiking with Bud and Turtle and we all agreed that when we hit a road crossing we would walk to the nearest motel and have food delivered. We asked the owner of the motel if we could sit at the picnic tables and order food. He was so nice, he gave us the phone numbers of restaurants and sold us some cokes. The next hour was so satisfying as we all stuffed ourselves to the max!
