Sorry we have not done a blog in awhile but as you'll find out we have been busy bees. After leaving the cult... I mean Stonybrook, we went into Harpers Ferry, WV. We hung out at the ATC (Appalachian Trail Conservancy) where we got a free cold coke and got our picture taken. We saw a lot of our fellow hikers there as we all put up our feet and relaxed on the comfy couches. As we got hungry, we walked downtown and ate a late lunch with 'Brotherman', andr we were sad to find out he was leaving the trail. We then hiked on to the next shelter where I regretted not bringing more water because I had to run down a steep 0.4 mile hill trying to beat the darkness. The next day was deathly hot and humid as a few hikers gathered at the Gathland Gap museum and ate lunch, not wanting to hike on due to the heat. We wandered into the air conditioned museum where we enjoyed the coolness as well as learned a bit of history about where we were hiking. The George Washington monument was nearby on a side trail so we popped over and sAw some great views from the tower but also saw a nasty storm moving towards us quickly. We picked up our pace and made it to a tent site where we finished putting our rainfly on just as the downpour started. Another lucky day!! A couple days later we were so excited to get to the halfway point having gone 1092 miles!! And to top it off we heard about a hiker feed so we quickly made it to Ironmaster mansion where there were yummy smells of hamburgers, sausages, Mac salad and an array of more desserts than imaginable. We had been planning to stay at the mansion and decided as we went to check in to ask about a work for stay. They told us that if we weeded the yard for a couple hours that we could stay for free so of course we jumped at the offer. It was awesome as we got to know the caretakers really well as they came out to help us. They told us they really appreciated what hard workers we were and offered us free pizza and laundry if we vacuumed around. So what should have cost us around $35 each we got free! There were only 4 hikers total in the big mansion so Camel and I got our own dorm room. As we left the next day the caretakers offered us another night to stay if we wanted but we knew we should push on.
